VERY BELATED WRAP UP (can you believe June is over?)

Posted July 1, 2018 by Jessica in monthly wrap-up / 0 Comments

So… I haven’t done a wrap up in like, ages. I’ve been busy, I’ve been tired, I’ve I guess sort of been on a hiatus? Anyway, this book was a very good reading month for me. (This year actually, but I’ll get into that in my mid-year wrap up) So let’s just get into the books I read, shall we?
Since my TBR is just ridiculous, I have been making monthly TBR’s and actually somewhat sticking to them. Which is a miracle because in the past I failed at all of my TBR’s. Out of the eleven books that I listed in my journal, I read about Seven of them, which is pretty good considering I sidetracked a bit. But in total, I read about nine books which wasn’t as much as I wanted to read, nor is it as much as last month, but I’m still proud that I read quite a bit and I enjoyed basically all of these.

  • Legendary by Stephanie Garber: This is hands down one of the best second books that I have ever read. It’s quite on par with A Court of Mist and Fury and Legendary was 100 times better than the first. And that plot twist!! I gave this a 5/5 stars.
  • Dark Beneath the Ice by Amelinda Berube: I received this for review from sourcebooks and I was surprised by how much I liked this. Its a ghost story with an unreliable narrator and Lesbian representation. I gave this a 4/5 stars.
  • Rule by Ellen Goodlet: I went into this expecting nothing and came out with so many questions. Like this book is so good?? It’s a twist of pretty little liars and three dark crowns but better than both. Also, this has Lesbian representation as well! I gave this a 5/5 stars.
  • A Reaper at the Gates by Sabaa Tahir: Well worth the almost two year wait. This book ripped my heart in half and made me feel so many things. I’ll have a review up for this soon but wow, amazing. I gave this 5/5 stars.
  • Ruined by Amy Tintera: possibly the chillest fantasy I’ve ever read. It’s so basic, but I love it? The characters are fantastic. The plot is pretty solid and it’s just super good. I rated this. 5/5 stars.
  • Avenged by Amy Tintera: Pretty solid sequel. This wasn’t on my TBR at all, but I felt the need to marathon the trilogy. I gave this a 5/5 stars.
  • Shadowsong by S. Jae Jones: I put this off for so long and don’t even know why. This was a solid sequel, things ended the way I wanted. I gave this a 5/5 stars.
  • The Poet X by Elizabeth Avecedo: Oh gosh this book surprised me. It made me cry so hard, like I couldn’t stop the tears from coming. I gave this a 5/5 stars.
  • A Little Bit of Faerie by Elaine Clayton: I’m writing a book about fae, so this research book was a necessity. I gave this 3/5 stars.
There are a few books I started in June but have yet to finish them and I hope that I can hopefully do it in July. The ones I am still working on is;
  • The Saviors Champion by Jenna Moreci
  • Roar by Cora Cormack (taking my time with this but why did i dnf it last year)
Now of course, I also got a lot of books this month. The good thing is, that most of these are arcs and from booksfortrade so I call that a success. I didn’t spend an obscenely amount of money and the books I bought? Were actually ones that I WANT to read. Basically just trying to not buy a ton of books cause I did a MAJOR unhaul this year and focusing on books I am actually interested in.

  • Great Pursuit by Wendy Higgins
  • Godsgrave by Jay Kristoff (don’t even have nevernight but it was a signed HC on bookoutlet)
  • Avenged by Amy Tintera
  • Allied by Amy Tintera
  • A Reaper at the Gates by Sabaa Tahir
  • Bird and the Blade by Megan Bannen
  • Dawn of Legends by Eleanor Herman
  • Grace and Fury by Tracy Banghart
  • Falling Kingdoms by Morgan Rhodes (finally completed my HC collection)
  • Rebel Spring by Morgan Rhodes
  • Bring Me Their Hearts by Sarah Wolf
TRADES (booksfortrade is the best)
  • Queen Underneath by Stacy Filak (arc)
  • City of Ghosts by Victoria Schwab (SIGNED ARC KSDJFH)
  • Bad Man by Dathan Auerbach (arc)
  • Never Contented Things by Sarah Porter (arc)
  • Smoke Thieves by Sally Green (arc)
  • Reign the Earth by A.C Gaughen (arc)
  • The Window by Amelia Brunskill (arc)
  • Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor (arc whatevenimexcited)

  • Imposters by Scott Westerfield
  • Gracy and Fury by Tracy Banghard
  • Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor
  • What the Woods Keep by Katya de Beccera
  • A Curse So Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kremmer
  • Beneath the Citadel by Destiney Soria
  • Blind the Eyes by K.A Wiggins
Besides reading and hauling a lot, I also accomplished another thing. I outlined my novel! This might not sound like a lot to some people, but fully outlining it and being happy with it has been something I was struggling with. This time it’s fully outlined and I am so proud of it and hope that one day I can share it with you all.
This is it for my wrap up, I hope everyone had a fantastic month whether you read a lot or read a little, I hope you enjoyed what you read and have a great day!

Going into 2018, I was quite nervous about what the year would bring. I was unsure of what I wanted to do and where this year would take me but at the same time, I remained optimistic for my reading life. So without further ado, let’s just get into it, shall we?

At the beginning of the month, I made a goal to stick to my blogging schedule which… I did not do exactly (and don’t worry I am back on it.) I just lost the motivation but now I can assure you I am back and ready to fangirl about books.

I entered a rep search friends, and I am now a rep for the lovelybookishmarks and I am so excited because her products are BEAUTIFUL.

I also… got a promotion at work. I’ve been there for almost two years and I have worked my ass off and my boss asked me if I would like to be a supervisor and I was like… uh yeah???? So yes that is exciting.

I also made a goal to draft my book… did not happen because one of the main characters of my story stuck out a lot for me so he’s getting his own book! I’ll do a separate post on this later if you are interested in it.

To be honest? This is one of the most successful reading months I have had this year. Granted I had only read six books, but every single one of this books I rated five stars. That’s right, FIVE STARS. I think I am slowly learning that it does not matter how many books a month you read that makes it successful, but the quality of books. At least in my case. I’m slowly learning that the quality of books I read in a month is what makes it successful for me.

Anyway, enough of my gibbering, let’s get into it shall we?

Language of Thorns by Leigh Bardugo

Justice Buried by Hilary ThompsonHer by Danielle Rose
The Song of the Sirin by Nicholas Kotar

So, I kind of failed to do a wrap up for September. Partially because I was busy and partially because I was just not feeling like it. This will be a two for one post and forgive me because this post is going to be a LITTLE long, I mean… I got a lot of books these past two months. I just got a lot of stuff in general so I’m going to be sharing everything I received with you all 🙂

Starting off with the books I read. In September I read five books. It is a little bit lesser than what I have read during the summer but, I ALSO just started school around this time so I cut back a little. I will have reviews for most of these books coming soon, so stay tuned for those! I’m not going to do too in depth.

A Gathering of Shadows by V.E Schwab 5/5 stars

A Conjuring of Light by V.E Schwab 5/5 stars

Tower of Dawn by Sarah J Maas 5/5 stars.

Kisses and Curses by Various 2/5 stars.

The Thief by Megan Whalen Turner 5/5 stars.

Very good reading month because as you can see the majority of what I read was five stars.

In October I read four books. I had aimed for five, but I missed it by one which is not really a big deal because I enjoyed the majority of what I read.

An Enchantment of Ravens by Margeret Rogerson 1/5 stars.

Gentlemen’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by MacKenzie Lee 5/5 stars.

Brooding YA Hero by Carrie Ann DiRisio 4/5 stars.

The Glass Spare by Lauren DeStefano 5/5 stars.

Photo Oct 29, 1 26 46 PM.jpg

I really underestimated how many books that I acquired during the past two months and I am in disbelief and I feel like I need to go on a book buying ban even though I know that this is not going to happen but I can try!

Starting with the books I got in September, only got ten which is not bad.

Tower of Dawn by Sarah J Maas

Empire’s Ghost by Isabelle Steigler

Prince of Fools by Mark Lawrence

Little Mermaid & other tales

Classical Mythology by Helen A. Guerber

Before She Ignites by Jodi Meadows

Alchemists of Loom by Elise Kova

Even the Darkest Stars by Caitlin Sangster

Enchantment of Ravens by Margeret Rogerson.

That didn’t stop there come October, I got even MORE. I got 20.

Brooding YA Hero by Carrie Ann DiRisio

What We See in the Stars by Kelsey Oseid

Language of Thorns by Leigh Bardugo

Forest of a Thousand Lanterns by Julie C. Dao

Sacrifice Box by Martin Stewart

Asylum by Nadege Richards

Autoboyography by Christina Lauren

History is All you Left Me by Adam Silvera

Last Seen Leaving by Caleb Roehrig

Timekeeper by Tara Sim

Wild Beauty by Anna Marie McLemore
Library of Fates by Aditi Khourana

Stranger things have Happened by Jeff Strand

27 Hours by Tristina Wright

Invictus by Ryan Graudin

The Glass Spare by Lauren Oliver

Cinder by Marissa Meyer

Scarlet by Marissa Meyer (I got both of these hardcovers for a $1 and it was buy one get one free so I had to get it)

Night Film by Maria Pessl

The Masked City by Genevieve Cogman

Photo Oct 29, 1 24 59 PM.jpg

So yes I acquired a ton of books the past two months and I had been thinking about going on a book buying ban but I’ve decided to just let that go and if I want to buy a book I am going to buy it and that was my physical TBR is huge and I have plenty to select from.

Gosh, how is it the end of summer already? It’s hard to believe where this year is going and to be honest, it’s hard to believe I am completely caught up with my reading goals. This summer has been such an incredible time for reading for me, I’ve read so many incredible books over the last three months, I kind of wish I could go back in time and re-read these all for the first time. I read 24 books in the span of three months and to me, that is absolutely incredible.

During the month of August, I read a total of 6 books. I finished an incredible series, I read an amazing stand-alone, and I am on my way to finishing another amazing trilogy. Needless to say, I think August has been one of my favorite reading months.

The first book I read was The Wood by Chelsea Bobulski. I will definitely have a review for this coming soon, but this one honestly surprised me. It would have been perfect for fall but since I am impatient and didn’t want to wait for fall— I obviously read it now. I rated this 4.5/5 stars.

The second book I read was Air Awakens by Elise Kova. I will have a series review for this coming sometime in the near future, but I have had my eye on this for such a long time. I finally decided to pick it up because I swear it was haunting me, but all I’m gonna say is that this series is number one on my favorite books ever. I rated this 5/5 stars.

The third book I read was Fire Falling by Elise Kova.  This book was a delight and it ended on SUCH a cliffhanger, I could not even. I rated this 5/5 stars.

The fourth book I read was Earth’s End by Elise Kova. This book played with my emotions and hurt me so much, Elise is brutal okay. I rated this 5/5 stars.

The fifth book I read was Water’s Wrath by Elise Kova. This one destroyed me, I cried so damn hard. I rated this 5/5 stars.

The sixth book I read was Crystal Crowned by Elise Kova. This made me so happy, it ended just the way I wanted it to end, and I rated this 5/5 stars.

So yeah, all 5 star reads practically and I do not regret rating them all five stars because they deserved it.

And yes, A Gathering of Shadows is featured here because I thought I would finish it, but I am definitely not going to get there by the end of the day.

NOW for my haul. I did not get as many books as I did last month, in fact, I got rid of more than I bought which that will be another post for another time. But I also invested in a Barnes and Noble membership card so yeah, goodbye savings!

From Barnes and Noble…

The Wood by Chelsea Bobulski
The Last Sacrifice by James A. Moore
The Theif by Megan Whalen Turner
The Queen of Attolia by Megan Whalen Turner
The King of Attolia by Megan Whalen Turner
A Conspiracy of Kings by Megan Whalen Turner

From Amazon…

Air Awakens by Elise Kova
Fire Falling by Elise Kova
Earth’s End by Elise Kova
Water’s Wrath by Elise Kova
Crystal Crowned by Elise Kova

From book subscription boxes…

The Hearts We Sold by Emily Lloyd Jones
Wicked Like Wildfire by Lana Popovic

So that concludes my August wrap up! I’ve read so many books this month and got so many good books, it’s almost unbelievable!

This is the best reading month that I have had in a LONG time. I have read SO many books, and I have no idea how I managed to read all of these. But oh my gosh, I did it! I enjoyed the majority of the books that I read.

  • Eliza and Her Monsters by Francesca Zappia: I absolutely loved this book, I read it in practically a day. I do have a review up for this hopefully by the time this post is up? I rated this 5/5 stars.
  • Sandcastle Empire by Kayla Olsen: I need to read more dystopian. That’s all. I also hopefully have a review up for this, if not my review WILL be up quite soon. I rated this 4/5 stars.
  • Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch: This fell flat for me, could not get into it… won’t be continuing the trilogy. I rated this 2/5 stars.
  • Because You Love to Hate Me by Ameriie: Loved this anthology and all the stories and the book tubers responses to them! I rated this 4/5 stars.
  • The Third Twin by  C.J Omololu: Finished this in 2.5 hours. Absolutely loved this contemp/thriller. I rated this 4/5 stars.
  • Follow Me Back by A.V Geiger: Another book I finished in the same day. I am so mad with this book okay. I rated this 5/5 stars.
  • Nightfall by Jake Halpern: This book took me by surprise. It was creepy and very fun to read. I rated this 4/5 stars.
  • The Darkest Part of the Forest by Holly Black: Read this in one sitting, this book was AHMAZING. The review will be up soon! I rated this 5/5 stars.
  • Daughter of the Burning City by Amanda Foody: You need to read this, it is so good. I rated this 5/5 stars. A review will be up soon.

I was going to hold myself back this month, but I could not because there were so many books that I needed.

Posted June 30, 2017 by Jessica in monthly book haul, monthly wrap-up, Uncategorized / 0 Comments

I can’t believe June is already over! The past two months I was in a really bad reading slump, especially in April I only read I believe… two books? Slowly but surely I am getting out of my reading slump and blogging slump. During the month of June, I read a total of six books. I had such a great reading month, most of my books were five-star reads and they took me completely by surprise. I believe there was only one book that I did not enjoy. But you know, I read a total of seven books. SEVEN. I have not read that many books in a month since last July and that was incredible.

Dark Breaks the Dawn by Sarah B Larson. 1/5 stars.
I have a review on this on my blog, and here is the link but… gosh I disliked this book. I found it to be boring and the worldbuilding was so poor and I didn’t like any of the characters. Also, this book is supposed to be a swan lake retelling? I don’t know, I didn’t care much about the book to look up what retelling it is.

Queen of Blood by Sarah B Larson. 5/5 stars.
I went into this not expecting much at all, and it took me by surprise. This is a book about a competition to find the right Queen who can control spirits that are literally in everything and will kill you. I read this in a matter of two days and it was just incredible.

Wintersong by S. Jae Jones. 5/5 stars.
I don’t know why it took me so long to read this book, but I finally did it! This is sort of a retelling of the Labyrinth and the Goblin Market? I am not TOO sure but I really loved this book. I love books where music is the main focus and the main character has a connection with it. I need the sequel now.

Our Dark Duet by V.E Schwab. 5/5 stars.
This is the sequel to This Savage Song and the last book in that duology. All I am going to say is that this book destroyed me.

Nyxia by Scott Reintgen 5/5 stars.
This is actually an arc and it comes out September 12 of this year. This is an incredibly diverse sci-fi read with characters from all parts of the world that you can imagine. It is a competition in space and that is all I can say right now until my review is posted closer to the release date! I just really loved this book!

Reign of Serpents by Eleanor Herman
I literally read this in the span of four hours. Granted it was shorter than I had expected, but it was incredible. I mean… things I wanted to happen didn’t happen, but you know what? I really liked what she did and especially all the little historical events she included! Kind of bummed I have to wait an entire year for the next book!

A List of Cages by Robin Roe
I feel like I always say this while reading a new book, but I have seriously… I mean, this was the most incredible book I have ever read.  This was so heart wrenching and emotional, I can’t wait to write a review on it and tell you all my thoughts!

And now for my book haul in which I uh… hauled a lot of books.

                                                                            I have ZERO impulse control.
Carry On by Rainbow Rowell
Dividing Eden by Joelle Charbonneau
Song of the Current by Sarah Tolscer
Our Dark Duet by V.E Schwab
Rosemarked by Livia Blackburn (ARC)
Sandcastle Empire by Kayla Olsen
New World Rising by Jennifer Wilson
Roar by Cora Carmack
Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo
Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo
Ruin and Rising by Leigh Bardugo
A List of Cages by Robin Roe
Reign of Serpents by Eleanor Herman
Now I Rise by Kiersten White
Zero Repeat Forever by G.S Pendergast (arc)
Ninth City Burning J. Patrick Black (arc)
Wings Unseen by Rebecca Farrell (arc)
Dark Intercept by Julia Keller (arc)
Ekata: Fall of Darkness by Dominique Law (arc)
The Witch’s Kiss by Elizabeth and Katharine Corr (arc)

February Wrap Up

Posted March 4, 2017 by Jessica in monthly wrap-up, Uncategorized / 0 Comments

I can’t believe that this month is over you guys, what is this madness. This month was a little uneventful for me because I didn’t really read everything that I wanted to. I’m attempting to get used to my school schedule along with work and it’s a little hard to fit in time for reading, but I try! And excuse this random photo. I didn’t take one for this month so yeah, I wanted to put something in this post!

So this month, I read six books! Three for enjoyment and two for school. I have reviews for some of these up already, so I’ll just give my rating and small thoughts.

WINDWITCH by SUSAN DENNARD: I loved this book so so much. It was one of my highly anticipated books and it did not disappoint! I rated this 5/5 stars!

KINGS CAGE by VICTORIA AVEYARD: Another anticipated read and this one took me by surprise because I was expecting to dislike it, but wow it was fantastic! I rated this 5/5 stars!

THE SONG OF ACHILLES by MADELINE MILLER: My favorite book of the month and of my life okay. This book was absolutely incredible, it made me sob, like really cry. I really recommend you guys to read this! I rated this 5/5 stars!

SHANE by JACK SCHAEFER: I had to read this for school. It was the typical western… it was nothing really special in my opinion. I rated this 3/5 stars!

THE PRINCESS SAVES HERSELF IN THIS ONE by AMANDA LOVELACE: Another amazing read. I loved all of the passages. I rated this 5/5 stars!

WINTERS BONE by DANIEL WOODRELL: I had to read this for class as well and wasn’t really enjoying it so I read it on audiobook and it was pretty good. Although I do actually enjoy the movie better. I gave this a 3/5 stars!

Mark of the Thief and Rise of the Wolf
The Valiant by Lindsey Livingston
Caraval by Stephanie Garber
Kings Cage by Victoria Aveyard
Shane by Jack Schaefer
The Princess Saves Herself in this One by Amanda Lovelace.

December Wrap up

Posted December 31, 2016 by Jessica in monthly wrap-up, Uncategorized / 0 Comments

The end of the year is quickly approaching and I cannot believe that in a few hours it will be 2017. That is just… wow. This year was a rough year. I feel like I say this a lot in my past posts, but I am so glad this year is going to be over. December was a good month for me. I unfortunately did not read a lot, but it was super relaxing and just what I needed after my semester at college. Since Christmas was also this month I will be sharing a few of the items I got for Christmas and what I purchased for myself as well as the books that I read.

I only bought six books myself this month. Which is relatively low since two of them are from Kindle Library Unlimited.
Crystal Storm by Morgan Rhodes
The Lunar Chronicles Coloring book
Red Queen Coloring Book
The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux
Free the Darkness by Kel Kade
Of Fire and Stars by Audrey Coulthurst

I got more books than I had anticipated this Christmas, but I’m so excited to read them! See any of your favorites here??

My family was amazing and got me ten books for Christmas and I gave them a huge huge list and I’m so happy about the ones they picked out.
The Gray Wolf Throne by Cinda Williams Chima
The Crimson Crown by Cinda Williams Chima
Kings Folly by Jill Williamson
Ice like Fire by Sarah Raasch
Frost like Night by Sarah Raasch
The Queen of Blood by Sarah Beth Durst
The King Slayer by Virginia Boecker
A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E Schwab
Red Rising by Pierce Brown
Golden Son by Pierce Brown

I also treated myself to a few items because I survived my first semester at a University. It’s a lame excuse, but oh well.
Another obsession of mine is makeup. I bought a Blush/highlighter Palette from Ulta and it is by Makeup revolution. It’s beautiful. I bought some liquid matte lipsticks from colourpop which is super affordable. I also bought a Kat Von D matte lipstick. 10/10 recommend. My family also bought me a few lipsticks from colourpop as well as the kyliecosmetics burgundy palette. I also got a face cleaning brush and the bubble foaming mask. My mom also got me a HUGE amount of art supplies because I have been super into art.

My favorite things I purchased for myself is this amazing Victor Vale bookmark from Skinny Hues. Vicious is my all time favorite book so I was happy to get a bookmark for this.

I also saw Star Wars and I am a little obsessed with Cassian Andor. So I bought two stickers from INJUREDDREAMS. I got one of Cassian and K-2S0 and one of just K-2SO.

I also got a pop!funko of Cassian Andor. Because I have zero self control.

NOW onto the books I read. I will be honest okay… I read three books this month. Incredibly lower than I had anticipated, but I finished my goodreads challenge for the year and I enjoyed the three books I read.

The first book I read was Roseblood by A.G Howard. This is sort of a retelling of Phantom of the Opera… I won’t give anything away but I rated this three stars and I did enjoy it.

I listened to an audiobook on audible and that was Slasher Girls and Monster Boys which is an anthology of horror stories. I was excited to read this but I was let down by it and only enjoyed two of the stories out of however many there were. I rated this two stars.

The last book I read for the year is Crystal Storm by Morgan Rhodes. This book was amazing. It was my most anticipated and I am a little sad I have to wait a year for the next book because that was a killer cliffhanger.

So that is my December wrap up, I am so ready for this year to be over and for the next year to start. I hope you guys have a great new years eve!

October wrap up

Posted October 31, 2016 by Jessica in monthly wrap-up, Uncategorized / 0 Comments

So October was a pretty good reading month for me. I’m absolutely proud of myself for reading six books even if most of them were not creepy or spooky books as I had originally planned. I probably acquired more books than I read which I am trying not to do.

Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo.

Image result for crooked kingdom

I actually started this at the end of September, but I’m including it for October because I read the majority of it this month. I’ve already put up my review for this amazing book. But this is possibly my favorite book of the year. Well, the top five. But wow, this was a fantastic end to an amazing duology and I am a little sad it is over!

The Call by Peadar O’Guilin

Image result for the call peadar o'guilin

I was so excited to read this book! The plot sounded amazing and super unique! Though it sounded similar to the Hunger Games and I was a little skeptical about it being the same, but believe me it is not. I also wrote a review on this. Unfortunately this did not live up to the expectations I had and it did not reach its full potential.

The Walls Around Us by Nova Ren Suma

Image result for the walls around us

This was huge surprise for me. I typically stay way from contemporary… ish type of books as well as mystery/thriller/paranormal or whatever this genre is. I also have a review for this on my blog, but I really enjoyed this book. It was a quick and enjoyable read!

Alexander the Great: The Invisible Enemy by John Maxwell O’Brien

Image result for alexander the great the unseen enemy john maxwell obrien

I am fascinated by Alexander the Great, but I had to read this book and write a book review on it for a class. Not much to say for this one, but it was very interesting!

Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake

Image result for three dark crowns

2/5 STARS (for now)

I was excited for this book. Very excited. However, I DNF’d it, sadly. It was not as good as I wanted it to be. It was boring and legit nothing happened. I looked at other reviews of people who ACTUALLY finished it, they said the same thing. I don’t know, maybe I’ll finish it in the future, just not anytime soon.

Through the Woods by Emily Carrol

Image result for through the woods

This has been on my TBR for so long, I just never really picked it up. It is sort of like a graphic novel and the pictures were truly beautiful! While this was a quick read I found myself confused at times as to what was going on. The stories did not make sense in some parts, however I sort of expected that in the first place. I am sort of mad I wasted a free book credit on this though on scribd. Forever salty about that.

So those are all the books I managed to read in October! Comment below with some spooky recommendations!
